Do What You Love
“Never continue in a job you don’t enjoy. If you’re happy in what you’re doing, you’ll like yourself, you’ll have inner peace. And if you have that, along with physical health, you will have had more success than you could possibly have imagined.”
– Johnny Carson
Isn’t it interesting to see where you can find wisdom and inspiration? It certainly never occurred to me that I would draw upon a quote from the former ‘Tonight Show’ host Johnny Carson. Although why not? He hosted ‘The Tonight Show’ for thirty years and is considered by many to be the original ‘King of Late Night’ (at least here in the United States). Hopefully he knew about continuing in a job he did enjoy. A job for which he received plenty of recognition and plenty of money.
Despite hosting a successful and well-known television show and the other perks of celebrity, it is not money or fame that Mr. Carson lists as contributing to inner peace. And it is not fame or fortune that he mentions as key ingredients for success.
Look at what he is telling us:
- Work at something you enjoy
- If you like what you do, you will like yourself
- If you like yourself you will have inner peace
- If you have inner peace and physical health, you are successful
Imagine that!
PS – I would also like to suggest that even when you do not have your health, you still have the opportunity to experience peace, it is what you do about your health and how you let it impact you that contributes to your inner peace.
