Privacy is Dead, Long Live Privacy!

This week I am using our inspirational quotes to ask you to think about social media. Is it right for you? That is for you to decide.
As for the quotes above what do you think? I think that saying ‘Privacy is dead’ is a bit dramatic. I definitely agree that you should not say anything online that you would not want plastered on a billboard. Millions of years ago when I rode my dinosaur to the office (OK, now I am being dramatic), we were all cautioned about what we put in writing in memos and letters. Then along came email and we were cautioned, “…don’t put anything in an email that you would not want to see on the front page of the newspaper…” So it is not social media that is the problem, if there is a problem it comes back to our own behavior.
That being said, perhaps you feel a bit uncomfortable with social media. You are concerned about your privacy. Well just like email and the internet and texting, social media is not going away. Do you have to use it? Again this is your decision. But if you are curious and would like to think about issues like:
Why would I use social media?
What is private, what is public?
Can I share personal information?
Is there anything I should not do?
What are some smart things I should do?
