Time to Play
“Play is the only way the highest intelligence of human kind can unfold.” – Joseph Chilton Pearce
At the beginning of the month I shared the site www.reellifewisdom.com with you. This is a site where you can see quotes from movies. Well it occurred to me that this site could help you create a fun and easy team building exercise. Simply grab some quotes from the site (make sure they are work place appropriate) and put them on a piece of paper or on a white board or on a slide. Ask people to guess what movie they came from and which character in the movie said it.
Don’t you think it is a good idea once in a while to have some fun with your team and as a team? Certainly we can schedule a few minutes to play a quick game into meeting agendas. A quick game can restore smiles and energy when things are tense. A redirect to something different can bring creativity back to a brainstorming session.
The concept behind the movie quotes can be applied to cartoon characters:
Who said, “I would gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today?” (Well as some of you know that is Wimpy from Popeye.)
This game can include books: What book begins with “It was the best of times; it was the worst of times…” A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens.
Art: At which museum will you find ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch? The National Gallery in Oslo.
You can customize the idea of this game to the different areas of interest expressed by your team. This can also be a good way to learn about what interests your team members.
Really, there is no excuse for us NOT to lead our team occasionally in a little play time.
Do you have a fun and inexpensive team builder? If so please feel free to pass it along.
Wishing you peace and play.
